Tokens have been issued to the public at fuel lines in some areas
as instructed by Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera. However, the public
in some areas remains unaware of the token system despite it being implemented
at a few fuel stations today.
Meanwhile, India is trying to get the advantage by acquiring 200
Ceylon petroleum (Cypetco) fuel stations. In such a crisis, The Sri Lankan
government didn’t pay attention to the Russian oil offer based on Rupee – Ruble
exchange. India receives oil from Russia and provides it to Sri Lanka with a
margin. There are deep ends in Lankan politics, but it’s easier to say that the
Gota-Ranil government is nothing but a failure.
Fuel is now for essential services. With this fuel crisis What is next?
This token system reminds the 1974 unity government of Sirimavo Bandaranayake,
which crated queues for bread, rice, and all essential items. In 1974 they
introduced this token method. Shortsighted rulers didn’t plan for a sustainable
economy for this nation.
