HUMAN ORGAN SMUGGLING 3 GRAMA NILADHARI OFFICERS ARRESTED

In a significant development, three more individuals have been arrested in connection to the human organ racket that was uncovered at a private hospital in Borella last year.

According tothe Police, the racket came to light following several complaints filed at the Borella Police Station, after which the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) launched an investigation into the matter.

Last year, four men and a woman who had fallen victim to the racket filed complaints at the Borella Police station, prompting the CID to take action. The investigation revealed that the racket had targeted impoverished individuals mainly for kidneys, and failed to pay the agreed amount for the organs obtained.

On Tuesday (16), the CID arrested a 32-year-old resident of Colombo 13, believed to be a
key broker in the racket. The suspect was apprehended at Armour Street.

In a further development, two Grama Sevaka officers, aged 59 and residing in Kaduwela and
Rajagiriya, were also arrested for allegedly aiding the brokers by providing fake documents. They were attached to the Kollonawa and Sri Jayawardenpura Kotte Divisional Secretary areas.
