Today
marks 13 years after the disappearance of Sandya Ekneligoda, Sandya's husband
and the missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.
In the
Maha Kli Amman Temple in Mutuwal, Colombo, she saw a solemn proclamation of
truth (Sathya kriy).
A
journalist, cartoonist, and human rights activist from Sri Lanka named Prageeth
Ekneligoda was reported missing on January 24, 2010.
A shocking revelation has
surfaced about the former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his
brother Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who served as Defense Secretary. According to
recent reports, they are being held responsible for the disappearance of
several individuals in the country.
Numerous cases of kidnappings,
commonly referred to as "white van cases," were reported during their
tenure, with many of the victims never returning. One of the high-profile cases
that highlighted this issue was that of journalist Pradeep Eknaligoda, who disappeared
without a trace.
In addition to Eknaligoda,
Sunday Leader Lasantha Wickramathunga also suffered a similar fate after
speaking out against the corrupt and ruthless rule of Mahinda Rajapaksa. Both
these individuals are being remembered today as brave voices who stood up
against tyranny.
The shocking revelations about
the Rajapaksa brothers have sent shockwaves throughout the country, with many
calling for a thorough investigation into these disappearances. The authorities
must take swift action to bring justice to the families of those who were
abducted and hold those responsible accountable for their heinous crimes.
