NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION AGAINST SLTDA CHAIRWOMAN KIMARLI FERNANDO! (25-04-2024)

The Chairwoman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), who is accused of contempt of court for violating an interim injunction issued by the Colombo District Court regarding questionable land, withdrew her appeal to fly overseas amidst objections. Also Fernando abused her authority as the SLTDA Chairwoman over the land in question in a bid to rule her nepotism whilst disregarding the court orders issued in this     regard.

Kimarli, also known as the notorious Dilmah Daughter-in-Law, used her political and family power to misuse assets belonging to the SLTDA in the most despicable way possible. We have previously divulged how Fernando had distorted decisions of the judiciary via private news agencies favorable to her by circulating fake news detailing the trial.

Ceylon Chamber of Commerce stressed that she should be removed from her post as the SLTDA Chairwoman immediately, in a letter addressed to the President dated April 20, 2022.

No-Confidence Motion Signed by Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO), The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL), the Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL), Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference and Event Organizers (SLAPCEO) and Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in Tourism Sri Lanka (ASMET), the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) in its letter addressed to President Rajapaksa unanimously concludes that Fernando should be removed from the post of Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) on the following grounds and that a more competent person should be appointed to the post.

Having the above concerns taken into consideration, the CCC also concludes in its letter that working with Fernando over the past two years and observing her role as the Chairperson of the SLTDA, it is beyond doubt that she has failed to provide the leadership needed to achieve the goals of the Tourism Industry.

About 60 victims, including close relatives of those killed in the Easter attack, are said to have taken part in the visit.

Earlier in the day, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith was visiting the Vatican at the invitation of the Pope.

SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE TO ARREST SSP KEERTHIRATNE – CID

Sources say that the CID has informed President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa that there is enough evidence to arrest SSP K.B. Keerthiratne who was in charge of the Kegalle division.

SSP Keerthiratne had ordered the firing to disperse a public protest in Rambukkana on April 19. One person was killed and three others were seriously injured and are still receiving treatment in hospital. More than 20 people were seriously injured.

Sources say that the CID has informed the President that there is enough evidence to arrest the SSP based on eyewitness and video evidence received so far regarding the incident.

The public has also criticized the police for not arresting any police officers in connection with the murder except for the transfer of three persons including Keerthiratne. In particular, the fact that SSP Keerthiratne is a close relative of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Chief Security Officer has further intensified the current anti – Rajapaksa sentiment in the country.

Shooting these protesters has also attracted international attention and the government is being pressured internationally. Sources said that the Sri Lankan government, which is at risk of a severe dollar crisis as well as an impending food shortage, risks not receiving the much-needed international humanitarian assistance to the country in the next moment if all efforts are made to rescue these police officers.

While welcoming the Ambassador, Minister Peiris appreciated China’s continued assistance to Sri Lanka which had begun even before establishing formal diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He also recalled the Chinese monuments erected in Sri Lanka with the funding of the Chinese Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The Foreign Minister also apprised the Ambassador of the current situation in the country and the shortage of energy which has adversely affected the economy of Sri Lanka.

MARCH AND PROTEST SEEKING JUSTICE FOR EASTER SUNDAY VICTIMS - ST. SEBASTIAN CHURCH KATUWAPITIYA, NEGAMBO (21-04-2022) - Phots

Three years ago, on a day like today, innocent Catholics gathered for Easter service at St. Sebastian Church Katuwapiriya Negambo to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Brutal suicide extremists bombed this precious Easter moment into a single bloodbath.

Suresh Jayasinghe wears a sombre black dress, a simple black headband written: "Justice " as he joins the group of Catholic protesters at St Sebastian Church.

His pregnant wife's medical test saved his life from the church bomb attack as he was absent on a particular day, but he lost his close friends and fellow churchmen. Suresh Jayasinghe was the caller and main organizer for today's event.

“A curse has befallen this government. After the Easter Sunday bombs, nothing has worked for this country. And the opportunist leaders are cursed. They have blood on their hands for their failure to deliver justice.” an emotional and determined Suresh Jayasinghe, told the media.

Rajapaksa, who swept to power in the aftermath of the Easter bombings, pledged to cleanse the country of “all elements of terror” and promised an expedited probe into the incident.

In recent months, however, the Sri Lankan Roman Catholic Church has criticized the government, questioning the investigation into the bombings.

More than a hundred thousand participated in the protest and march from St Sebastian Church to the Negombo Bus stand. Along with Reverent Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, many catholic priests and Buddhist monks participated in the event with prayers for the Easter Sunday victims.

The Police report(B) submitted to the Kegalle Magistrate Court on the shooting at Rambukkana yesterday (19) to disperse a public protest has strongly been opposed.

Accordingly, the Magistrate was conducting an on-site probe with the relevant officers from around 2 pm today until the evening. Reports said that the residents of the area have shown blood stains on road about half a kilometre away from the place in which the terror had occurred.

Accusations are being levelled against the Police that the blood stains near the shooting location have been washed away.

The Police were also said to be embarrassed as they were unable to produce a firm statement before the Court, especially in terms of corroborating the story with what the Police Media Spokesperson, the Senior Police Spokesperson, the Inspector General of Police and the Minister in Charge of the Police had produced to the media.

Many legal counsels attended the Court proceeding.

Meanwhile, Attorney at Law Udul Premaratne made a Social Media remark in this regard and published photographic evidence matching the residents’ version of the story.

I am sorry, Fertilizer project went wrong, and I didn’t go to the IMF at the right time - President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has said that the people are suffering due to the current economic crisis and that he is deeply saddened by it.

He also said that he believed that a program with the International Monetary Fund should have been launched earlier and that he felt it was wrong not to provide chemical fertilizers to farmers.

Rajapaksha regime should understand the importance of feasibility study upon new projects rather than their commission cut. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa should also think about the betterment of the country and appoint educated individuals for planning and implementing further.
