NPP ‘S PROPOSAL TO REVIVE SRI LANKA (19-07-2022)

 


Leader of JVP and NPP MP Anura Dissanayake put forward several proposals to stabilize the country through an interim government.

Addressing a media gathering at the JVP party headquarters its leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake shared the proposals relating to the number of ministers, the period of the interim government, and its possible composition among many others.  


Concerning the governing structure of Sri Lanka, the JVP has suggested the new government should be an interim government set up for a short period and consist of a maximum of ten cabinet ministers.
The MP has also proposed that the President, Ministers, MPs, Chairman, and Directors of state authorities be paid the basic salary adding that a mechanism with the participation of activists, trade unions, and mass organizations to monitor the progress of the program must be established. The MP has also said a general election must be called after the lapse of six months allowing the people to appoint a government of their choice. 
The NPP through its economy-related proposals has stressed the importance of prioritizing support for communities most vulnerable to inflation and loss of income. It also stressed the implementation of a special program to attract tourists in the upcoming holiday season while also seeking assistance from foreign allies and international organizations. 
The MP also presented several proposals to introduce constitutional amendments to strengthen democracy including the abolishment of the executive presidency and the resumption of anti-corruption measures that included the implementation of the STAR program in Sri Lanka for recovery of stolen assets as well as the commencement of investigations regarding the Panama papers, Pandora papers and the Sri Lankan Airlines deal in the UK.
